Deactivating a relationship

Thanks for your answers. The "trick" proposed by Ronald is all that I need for the moment. It's very helpful

Arnaud,

I have software that have functionality to switch on and off task links {between different jobs (all or just a few), or within same job} but frequently it is not enough if your new combination of links cannot be applied because they create logic loops. In this case saving links tables for different scenarios is a practical solution.

In the following video links table are saved for different scenarios and then imported back, as you can see if the import back creates loops the link import is not executed, this is avoided by deleting all links and importing any desired links table, a simple procedure that can even be performed with a single click of the mouse by recording scripts.

Because most scheduling software allows for some way to transfer data from their tables I hope the above example can provide you with an alternate way to transfer back and forth different links scenarios using the functionality within your software.

Best regards,

Rafael

Arnaud,

This sort of functionality is not necessarily available in P6.  Relationship Diagramming Method (RDM) as proposed by Fred Plotnick and Logic League as provided in our Schedule Analyzer Software add-on software package can do this.  But for you, there may be a quicker way.

You can ‘temporarily delete’ inter-schedule relationships by simply not opening the two schedules at the same time.  Open the single schedule and then de-activate the link to the other schedules by selecting, “Ignore relationships to and from other projects” in the Options Section of the “Schedule” function.

You cannot use this ‘trick’ to ignore relationships to activities in the same schedule but hey, it’s something.  Good luck!
