If it is only one task you can have 2 assignments

1st assignment 500 hrs resource A with the period set as non working when resource B is assigned

Then you assign resource B with a different start date.

This function is allow resource assigned to activity within the date period of the activity

Hi,

Thank you all for your reply... Actually in MSProj, there is an option in resouricng called "Replace resource".. Meaning I can replace the specifc resource with somebody, taking into account their actual work(units) then transfer the remaining work(units) to someone. But I don’t know how to do it in P5. Any idea?

Yusuke,

I would be using the original lag on the resource assignments to set them up to start a selected duration (no of time periods) from the commencement of the activity (Actual start Date). The reason for this is that if you apply start and finish dates to the resource assignments it is the same as applying a constraint to the activity, only you can’t readily see it.

The next thing you must do is use the column ’Actual Finish Date’ on the resource assignment when that resource is no longer required on the activity, elsewise dependant on the resource settings the global and user calculation settings as well as the project calculation settings, there is a potential for the resource to have remaining effort re-created out of thin air.

It’s not an easy thing to do, trying to understand how Primavera have made their software function but you can do it if you trial everything in a small 1 or 2 activity schedule off to the side somewhere.

Under the resources tab in the activities view you can call up two columns for Start and Finish date for each individual resource so you should be able to assign the dates you want from there
