Project Engineer for DS-9 Managed Pressure Drilling System

Houston, TX

The new build drill ship Ensco DS-9 was contracted by an E&P Company to have a Managed Pressure Drilling System.  As part of a two man capital project team, I was instrumental in designing, installing and commissioning a one-of-a-kind Managed Pressure Drilling system on-board the DS-9.  As part of the fabrication of the system I was required to interface with and manage vendors who produced the individual components for the system.  This management was in regards to design changes, cost and scheduled delivery of the components to ensure the minimal risk to the project.  Inclusive of the installation of the system I was responsible for developing the work scopes detailing the requirements to install the system on-board.  This required detailed on-board survey at Samsung in Geoje, South Korea with the shipyard contractor for constructability and risk assessment.  Post detailed survey I was responsible for writing the work packs for inclusion into the contract with the shipyard. I was directly involved with the Keppel-Fels, Singapore shipyard contractor overseeing the installation phase of the project to ensure the system was mechanically complete as per the design and construction requirements as minimal commissioning could be completed quayside.  Follow on dynamic commissioning was performed in Andaman Sea off Thailand.  This was comprised of guiding the rig crew and rig management in the deployment, operation and recovery of the system as well as witnessing by the client and ABS surveyors.
