Project Planning / Scheduling & Control Engineer, Rajeh H. Al-Marri and Sons Company, Shaybah NGL Pipeline Project

START Date:
January, 2010

Planning Responsibilities:

·         Determine detail requirements from the Scope of Work with the related drawings, that needs to be completed by using different data gathering techniques like document reviews, reviewing historical records, considering all the quality, safety, technical and project requirements keeping in view the enterprise environmental factors.

·         Decomposing the scope of work into smaller components to create the Work break down Structure up to Work Packages level with the WBS dictionary.

·         Defining the activities that needs to be done for completing the Work Packages by decomposition and rolling wave planning.

·         Creating a network diagram (using precedence diagraming method in Primavera) by identifying the interdependencies between the activities both internal and external considering the discretionary and preferential relationships using appropriate lags where required.

·         Estimating the resource requirements for each activity and loading the necessary resources both direct and indirect at the activity and work package level using bottom up estimating.

·         Estimate time and cost required to complete the activity considering the activity resource requirements, risk analysis and enterprise environmental factors using different estimating techniques like analogous, parametric and three point estimating,

·         Determine the critical path using the longest path method or total float greater than the desired value.

·         Determining the contingency reserves for different work packages and adding them to time and cost estimate.

·         Develop the final execution schedule by optimizing the resources, compressing the schedule by either fast tracking or crashing.

·         Creating the Performance measurement baseline as part of Monitoring & Controlling.

·         Create the Project Invoicing format as per the Schedule ‘C’ Cost Break down Structure.

·         Creating the Resource Histogram with the required manpower and equipment.

·         Generating S Curves for the planned progress and man-hours to measure against in monitoring and controlling process.

·         Create the reporting formats to be used.

·         Developing the Schedule Management Plan

·         Determination of acceptable variances on the project

·         Identification of Schedule Change Control Procedures.

·         Identification of the Performance measures that will be used on the Project to identify variances.

·         Development of Different Project Planning procedures, using Organization Process Assets, for the project such as: Planning & Scheduling Procedure, Progress Monitoring Procedures, Reporting Procedures, Productivity MeasurementProcedures.

Monitoring & Controlling Responsibilities:

·         Collecting of work performance data that is actual dates, remaining duration, actual labor and non-labor units and physical percentage complete for different Construction activities and actual dates and duration percentage complete for Procurement activities.

·         Updating the work performance data in Primavera and creating the weekly and monthly progress reports for different phases of the project.

·         Creating Monthly Project Invoicing reports and Cash inflows using Earned Value Measurement.

·         Conducting Performance reviews by trend analysis by graphing project performance over time to determine whether performance is improving or deteriorating for comparison to future performance goals.

·         Conducting Performance reviews by comparing the progress along the critical path helps determine the schedule status notifying the impact on the project completion date.

·         Conducting Performance reviews by using Earned Value Management to calculate the Schedule Variance (SV) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI) to assess the magnitude of variation to the original schedule baseline.

·         Creating 2 weak look ahead and one month look ahead schedule and communicating to all the stakeholders.

·         Assigning Daily, Weekly and Monthly Targets for the field personnel for Schedule Compliance

·         Estimating the implications of the variances to future completion of work and determining what corrective and preventive actions are required.

·         Re-calculating the reserves and determine if new reserves are required and which reserves can be returned back to the management.

·         Creating the Recovery Schedule by schedule compression using fast tracking, crashing and re-estimating the remaining works and reducing the lags.

·         Updating the schedule baseline to reflect approved changes like scope changes, and other changes due to corrective and preventive actions.

·         Communicating the work performance reports to the stakeholders as per the Communication management plan.

·         Attending the Weekly Progress meeting with the client (Saudi Aramco Project Management Team) for smooth execution of work

·         Attending the Internal Management Review Meetings giving the updated status for different disciplines suggesting strategies to recover the back lock and keep project on track.
