Mike is a highly experienced and capable senior Controls Manager/Planning Manager with 35 years experience.  Mike entered the construction industry at apprentice level, before returning to college and university.  Having completed the BSc (Building), Mike started his professional career in the construction industry working overseas on a variety of New Build oil related infrastructure/Roads & Utilities  projects for Bechtel in Brazil and Kazakhstan between 1988 and 1994.  Since returning to the UK, Mike has been involved on a variety of major New build/Infrastructure/Utilities/Refurbishment and Rennovation developments, (Hands-On ,On-Site Planning Manager) - including Motorola East Kilbride and Hyundai Dunfermline and the Quartermile development in Edinburgh (a £160M redevelopment of the famous world heritage site in Edinburgh) for Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd.. Mike moved on to become Senior Planning Manager for Heery International Ltd  ,looking after the complete life cycle (full P+L) on ,the St Enoch Centre redevelopment (including all new/shopfitting and fit-outs),the Usher Hall extension (Creating a basement directly under the grade A listed historic building and dealing with all necessary departments within Edinburgh District Council) ,Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports new departure lounges (among other projects) . Construction Manager for Land Energy Ltd effectively and efficiently delivering their major construction portfolio and ,simultaneously  assisting   Babcock in Rosyth creating a sitewide masterplan and,implementing their new Docksides/Roads and Infrastructure Programme..Most Recently Mike has acted as Controls Manager for  AMEY ,the company re-structuring and development of a major projects division ; delivering major construction/civils/infrastructure projects ,from North of Scotland to Lancaster ; directly responsible for delivery of projects ranging from £5M to £75M (on a contract basis).

Key Duties and Responsibilities :-

As the Senior Planning  Manager I led the consulting/construction team ,

Land Energy Ltd

Company Controls Manager– Environmental/CHP/Biomass & Fuel Recovery/Hydro Projects

Land Energy Ltd had plans to become the UK/Europe’s largest Wood Pellet Manufacturer .My role at Land Energy was Company Controls Manager ,to effectively help set up a construction division specifically to deliver these plans with full P&L responsibility .At peak carrying a construction staff of over 100. Reporting to the main board ,Mike was responsible for procuring design teams/contractors/setting up the sites and providing back up and support for each of his site teams

Duties and responsibilities :-

-          Set-Up the site ,including hiring the site teams/sub-contractors/suppliers

-          Introduce proper/suitable construction work procedures

-          Setting out and levelling/surveying on site

-          Order all materials timeously

-          Order all plant timeously

-          Carry out site inductions daily

-          Ensure site teams have all necessary instructions/drawings/specs/etc

-          Meet all key staff/subs daily

-          When Project Manager in place ,hand over and start again on next site

·       Construction of 5x New CHP & Pelletline Factories ,value £100M

·       Construction of New Biomass & recovery plant ,value £ 25M

Reporting to the Regional director ; Mike was responsible for establishing a separate planning and controls section within the Heery Co with full P&L responsibility for that division.
