Hello all,
New to this board and have a question regarding resource planning best practices. I am not a PM, but an Internal Auditor trying to determine if something I believe is being done incorrectly is indeed just that.
Im reviewing several project plans, and they resources allocated to tasks in the project in two ways 1) Individual resources or 2) A group combined as one resource.
My problem is this...looking at an individual resource it is easy to identify when that resource is being over-allocated on tasks, but when I look at a Group (which may consist of 5-6 resources rolled into 1) theres no way to tell and in many cases it shows the "resource" as being over allocated since the project planner has put 8 hours of time for each resource in the group on one task in one day, i.e. 40 hours in one day on the one task.
Not sure if I explained this correctly. Common sense and what I know about PM tells me that this is not the best way to go about things.
Any thoughts/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.
