WHAT IS A TECHNIQUE FOR QUICK RESOURCE LOADING IN PRIMAVERA FOR A COMPLEX PROJECT? HOW TO POPULATE PRIMAVERA EXPORTED EXCEL FILE

Consider the case of a complex project with 20,000 construction phase activities. I need to do the following:

1. Load BOQ cost in my Primavera schedule (Non labor resource “BOQ cost” is defined in resource directory).

2. Load Resources for each activity in my primavera schedule (different trades of labor resources are defined in resource directory).

3. Load BOQ Quantities for each activity in my primavera schedule (different material resources are defined in resource directory).

I am familiar with native excel export/import process. In excel exported file we need to populate BOQ budgeted units for each resource ID and then import back to primavera.

For Example:

BOQ ITEM#

Description

Qty

Cost

090001

Floor Marble

10,000m3

600,000

In primavera schedule floor marble is distributed to 10 floors and we need to assign budgeted unit for material quantity resource, labor resource and BOQ cost non labor resource to primavera schedule.

Likewise, we have 20,000 activities in schedule so my question is what is the quick/fast way of loading each activity with these resources. i.e. How to populate primavera exported excel file with required budgted units?

Hope you understand my question.

You response will be highly appreciated.

I prefer Nomitech CostOs cost estimator software. You can be Primavera activities with resources from CostOs BOQ items automaticly. CostOs using Primavera API integration successfully.

Hi,

P6 give a function to quickly populate resource unit. You can refer to this article:

How does “Top Down Estimation” in Primavera P6 work? : https://doduykhuong.com/2016/07/08/how-does-top-down-estimation-in-primavera-p6-work/

you will have to talk to who ever did the takeoff and made the Budget categories to see what was put into what bucket.

there has to be a basis for this estimate somewhere with sufficeint detail to get the budget numbers

is your company using and estimating tool ? if so you can probally get a detailed export out of it to excel and use that

Dear Zoltan Palffy, as you said, “Copy/Paste” Activity ID & Activity Description, into the Resource tab TASKRSRC and then populate with budgeted units using resource name - Very nice I agree, But,

My question here is, in BOQ we have very few items, but, in primavera schedule its huge number of activities. What technique/template do you use to populate this huge Task List (Activity IDs) with resource budgeted units (BOQ).

How do I distribute a single BOQ item to a number of activities in primavera schedule?

1st create the required resources

create a dummy actviity and right click and select assign resources and assign ALL of your labor and non laor resource to this dummy activity.

next export to excel the activities AND the Resource and Resource assignments

when exporting the file to excel make sure to include the resource type and budgeted units and activity name

you will now have 2 tabs one for the activities called TASK and the other for the resource called TASKRSRC

now copy the activity id and description into the Resource tab TASKRSRC

now use the resource name from the dummay activity to populate the TASKRSRC tab with th ebudget units labor and on labor

Each resource will have to be on a seperate line. So the the same activity maybe listed seversl times.

There are no Shortcuts but there would be workaround between Excel and P6.

BTW, what type of Projects? A mass Housing Project or Tower Building?
