Help Save construction in Northern Ireland

A petition has been started to collect signatures to present to the UK Government in protest at the proposed cuts to the public sector finances.

In Northern Ireland, the construction industry  (as well as many other industries) depends heavily on the public sector to provide employment in the form of schools, hospitals, roads ets and many forms of maintenance.

Since the recession hit much of this work has stopped costing thousands of jobs in Northern Ireland, this continued lack of investment by the public sector has led to long term unemployment for many individuals

Recent statistics obtained from the bbc website claim 21000 construction industry workers in Northern Ireland have lost their jobs since the recession hit and that 13000 of those remain unemployed

The construction industry has been further targeted by the Government cuts as there is a proposed 40% reduction in Government spending, the construction industry in Northern Ireland will be unable to cope with such cuts as the private sector is many times too small to absorb the cuts
