Dear All,
I have a activity whose original duration is 125 days, while in baseline it is calculating it properly. but in tracking schedule, the finish date is increasing beyond the allocated 125 days to 238 days. i checked everything calenders, duration types, percentage complete types, everything is same. still why there is difference coming?

Mangesh
Dear Gary,
Thanks for the guidance, i checked and further experimented on it and came to understand what you were saying.
Now i am discussing with my boss as to what must be done, causing retained logic is showing delay while progress override is not.
Lets see, what he has to say.

Mangesh
Mangesh,
It souds like you have the retained logic scheduling option selected, but you want progress overide.
Retained logic means that primavera will adjust early start & finish dates to comply with all relationships and lags built into the schedule, regardless of actual dates
Progress overide means when an actual date defies the predeccesor relatioships and lags, those 'broken' logical links are ignored.
For more information, search this site for "retained logic vs progress overide". It has bee discussed in depth many times.
To adjust these settings, go to Tools > Schedule > Options
Regardless of which option you use, it is still good planning practise to correct any relationships or lags to reflect what actually happened.
Cheers,
G
Dear Ronaldl,
Thanks for the reply, i checked the activity is task dependent and after playing with it the below mentioned scenario is happening.
Activity A--------FS Lag 75-----Activity B.
Activity A is completed and activity B has started much before the lag as specified above.
now even after the activity "B" has started, why is the lag affecting the end date of activity 'B". this must not happen.
any comments/guidance please.
after removing of lag the end date changes for activity "B".

Mangesh
Mangesh,
Is the Activity Type for this activity “Level of Effort” (LOE)? This type of activity will automatically stretch to fit its logical constraints. If it is a LOE, this is just for display purposes and does not need to be updated. Good luck!
Dear Daniel,
Thanks for your reply, i have tried that also, but somehow it just doesn't work.

Mangesh,
Is your duration type "Fixed Duration & Units/Time" ? If not, change it to this duration type, other than that I do not see any reason why it will change the duration.

Daniel
