Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

in the activity menu, click column , then find the percent you want in the list.

Sitaram,

If your programme is not resource-loaded, you can still show the roll-up summary of Schedule % Complete by assigning expenses to your activities.

And, with the assigned expenses you can do variance analysis by cost (Performance % Complete). But you still have to do tracking your programme by CPM (variance in days) to have the real picture of the current update.

Schedule percent complete is based on money at the summary bar level. It will only display a value if:

The activities have resources
Those resources have a unit price.

For those environments that do not use P6 for costing, set all the resources to the same price (e.g. $1.00) and then you will have a percent complete. that matches P3’s summarisation by resource. REmember Schedule % complete is from the baseline (we used to call it "planned percent complete")

why are we unable to get the schedule % complete on the summary bars. Though the project is completed by 25%, the top summary bar is still showing 0 %complete while the activities are showing correctly. How to rectify it and is there a way to find the summarised % complete just like in P3. If not in P6, is there any way that can be done in excel (means to compute the planned % at various stages of the project). Do reply immediately

Arun,

1) % Complete in P3 (also in Sched Log) = Duration % Complete in P6

2) Autocost Rules "link/unlink remaining duration and schedule % complete in P3 = Physical % Complete in P6

Mustafa,

You have to cost-load your programme in order to roll-up the Schedule % Complete in P5.

Guys,

Could you please let me know how to make % Shedule to be shown in Level 3 in P5?

There is no problem to show the planned progress at activity level, but when you roll it up to let’s say level 3 it gets blank.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Mustafa

hi Arun,

Arnold is right. Actual Values (%) depends on how you will monitor the project. It may be based on cost, material, manpower. About the automatic scheduling, when you run the update progress in P6, it will automatically update all your resources depending on the schedule to get planned %, just like in P3, but it is a long process if you will need the planned % for each month. It is better to assign baseline, then get all planned % for each resources by report writer in P6 either monthly or weekly and fix it in excel. Then just add the actual percentage on every update.

Hope this will help in your planning

Wilfredo

% Complete = Actual / Forecast @ Complete.
% earned = Budget (Original / Current x Physical % Complete)

What is required.

Dear Arun,

Also how is your client expecting, Duration based % complete or cost based % complete.

I guess you are aware how P3 calculates the Percentage complete displayed in the Schedule log.

If you need the same %complete you can try it using global change.

Hi Arun,

As I have mentioned in my previous post #7, you cannot find the % complete in schedule log of P6 as what you can see in P3.

If you wish to check the log, go to Tools --> Schedule, select "View Log". Make sure you tick the "Log to file" and locate the SchedLog.txt

Regards,

Arnold

Hi Arun,

What type of % complete that your Manager ask you? When you trying to present your % complete, it is based on what?

1. Duration (Time)
2. Units (Quantity or any resources you assign to your activities)
3. Physical - User’s manually input or based on activity steps.

Arnold

Hi Arun,

You can calculate your % complete using the three different types of "% complete type".

1. Duration
2. Physical
3. Units

Hi Arun,

You mean in Schedule Log? Unfortunately, there is no overall % complete shown in the schedule log.

You can show the overall % complete in the column at Activities and WBS windows.

Arnold

Hi Arun,

You can have your Planned % when you assign a baseline to your current project, and actual % depends on how you monitor your project. (e.g. based on quantity, cost, man-day, man-hour and etc.).
