ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME REGARDING STATUSING 1 DAY ACTIVITY? WE DID NOT FINISH THE ACTIVITY AND WILL BE CONTINUED NEXT DAYS. 90 PERCENT COMPLETE AND 10% REMAINING KINDLY ASSIST ME.
THANKS
Hi Raviraj,
in admin preference>Time periods please check if "use assigned calendarto specify the number of work hours for each time period" is checked ?
Cause if its not checked then Primavera would change the work hours acccording to the admin preferences Time Periods.
The problem in activity 2 must be coming because it is picking work hours from Time Periods and not Calendar assigned to it.

Check out my blog on Primavera at http://www.primaverablog.in. Do leave your comments :)
i think once you change admin preferences to 8 hr/day instead of 10hr/day it will change all the activities and all the schedules, if in user preferences units of time is days.. also calender for the activity should be 8 hr/day.

My Question is,
Y activity with 2 days or more considers USER preference, while activity with 1 day duration considers ADMIN preference.
Is this correct.
Now, is my question clear this time?
Raviraj
There might be a misunderstanding: Entry in Admin Preferences "Default Duration for new ..." means: If I just add a new activities and dont manipulate the duration, it will have that duration indicated under the Admin Preferences. If I enter 1d for duration, the Admin Preferences "Time Units" will be used or - if different - my user preferences will be used.
Good luck!
Dieter
Well, I found d solution (In fact, Dieter Wambach helped me out from d problem), but its very funny.
U can try by creating sample project on ur system of just 4-5 activities.
1. Set Admin preferences --> Default Duration as 10 hours per day.
2. Set user preference as 8 hours per day. (Just do it and Dont ask y?)
3. Set calender as 8 hours per day.
4. Set Duration for Activity 1 as 2 days. (it will consume 16 hours and NOT 20 hours as set in admin preference).
5. Set Duration for Activity 2 as 1 day. Now this will make u crazy. Say, activity started on Monday 8.00am, then it will finish on Tuesday 10.00am.
It will consume 10 hours because u have set that in Admin preference, even though u have entered duration in days.
Dont u think so, it shud take 20 hours for Activity 1, as set in Admin preference.
This is really crazy, as its a problem for activity with 1 day duration only.
OR am i confused??
Hope so, what i said is correct.
Plz reply.
Ravi,
The problem you encounter is your activities start after few minutes more (0830hrs?)on your calendar starting time (0800hrs).
You can verify this by showing the minutes time on your column.
Edit-->User pref.--> Dates ; Check the show minutes.
Hope this help,
Rony

Ok, thanx guys for all the help.
Its still not solved.
What I hav to prepare is now only level 2 program, so not worried much manipulating soem workhours in calender.
Lets see what happens when contractor submits his program.
Cheers,
Ravi
Ravi,
One day is twenty four (24) hours, not 16 hours
Raviraj
Im almost sure, that the reason is the default duration for new activities or a copy/paste with the wrong basis.
Switch you durations to "hour", then check the default duration.
Dieter
Its all 8 hours.
problem is with day activities having 1 day duration only.
If i insert activity with 2 days duration, then its consuming 16 hours.
Help plz
If you change to 1 day now?
Did you check your default duration for new activities?
Hey guys,
I have changed 1 day duration to 2 days.
Now, its consuming 16 hours, which is correct.
i m really pissed off with this.
O P6 gurus, plz help me out.
Sorry for teh late reply.
but as said earlier, my admin preference and user preference are set on 8 hours/day.
This problem is in all programs.
Let me check by entering new activity
:-|
As you know, P6 works in hours in the background, so if the 1 day duration was entered when the admin preference was 10 it would consume 10 hours.
If your going to change it to 8, it wont pass down the chain so to speak, you will have to go through each activity re-entering the duration of 1 day (which is now 8 hours).
Raviraj
This situation I never had. By the way: What is the default duration for new activities? (Admin --> Admin Preferences --> General: 10h?)
Did you add new activities by copy --> paste and by this you copied 10 hours as a duration?
If youll change to 1 day duration, what happens?
Regards
Dieter
Thanks Dieter for such a quick response.
I have checked both: Admin and user preferences
Its 8.0 hours per day.
Issue is, its a problem with ativities having 1 day duration only. For all other activities, its OK.
Help plz
Sorry I forgot: Then youll have to check the durations - fill dow will work.
Dieter
Raviraj
Check under:
1. Admin --> Admin Preferences --> Time Periods: Hours per day = 10? change to 8. or
2. Edit --> User Preferences --> Time Units: Hours per day = 10? change to 8.
Good luck!
Dieter
