Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Dear all.

I have a question in regards with the earned value. I have added cost resources to my project schedule, and assigned them to my activities. However, when I wanted to calculate the eaned value in MS project, all values remains zero, no matter what status date of the project I choose.

I have been searching for the reason behind this, but unfortunately I coudn't.

If anybody could help me with this, I would be so thankful..

Thank you.

Hello Tom

I was thinking the same way, but I wasn't quite sure to be honest.

Thank you for this valuable information and confirming my thought.

Ali,

In MSP, cost type resources do not perform work, so they are excluded from EV calculations (i.e. BCWS, BCWP, ACWP).  To get them into EV calculations, you need to set them up and assign them as material resources (i.e. with units and rates).

Then of course don't forget to:

  1. Set a Baseline;
  2. Select that Baseline as the basis for EV Calculations (advanced options);
  3. Enter progress (i.e. %complete or physical %complete, depending on selection in advanced options)

Good luck, tom
