Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hello,

I am creating a new schedule and want to understand best practices by experts here.

How are you managing engineering or document approvals in your schedule?

  1. Submission/Approval - as a single activity?
  2. Submission linked to approvals - as separate activities?
  3. Or you manage it in a separate software and update percentages only to WBS summaries?

Thanks in advance,

Haroon

Hi Mike,

I agree with you that the submission/approval should be done for each WP.

Best Regards

Kannan

Hi Kannan

You are absolutely correct but there are some further refinements that I would suggest.

The design and approvement cascade should be set up for each work package and linked to start of the package work.

The cascade should be as you suggest Design Approval + Order + Work Design + Procurement + Delivery + Port Clearance + Stock on Site.

This simple cascade should be set ALAP when linked to the work package Start Work Milestone.

Best regards

Haroon,

Always divide the engineering document submission in to 3 section

1. Submission duration

2. Review/Approval duration as per the contract(may be approved or to resubmit or approved as noted)

3.Follow up and final approval (consider 2-3 revision durations)

Procument may start after no.2 (may be it is approved as noted) but the manufacturing you cant finish without the final approval.

For construction related design, you should get the final approval no.3 prior to any works (otherwise you can start in your own risk)

Regards

Kannan
