Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Dear Trevor,

On average, the initial estimation would be withing 25% error. You are correct.

The best people to estimate the duration of the project, would be the Design team in association with skilled contractors who have done similar jobs in the past.

With kind regards,

Samer

This top-down stuff is just pure guesswork, with a bit of experience thrown in, maybe. It doesn’t even rate as an estimate.

Could just as well be:

Engineering: 13 months
Procurement: 11 months
Construction: 23 months
Commissioning: 7 months

Plan the actual project in detail from the bottom up and then you know.

Engineering 12 Months
Longest Lead I think is approx 12 Months (Vessel)Depended on Market
Construction - 6 to 9 Months
Commissioning 3 Months
This can overall as well to a certain Percentage I would say Overall approx 18 to 24 Months
The Biggest problem Process depends how far the design is or your inhouse capacity/Knowledge.

Dear Anu,

Very rough estimation, you can start with

Engineering: 12 months
Procurement: 12 months
Construction: 24 months
Commissioning: 6 months

Depending on the stage that you are at, you can float few inqueries for Engineering firms, suppliers and few Contractors with similar experiences in your area, and get more feedback.

With kind regards,

Samer
