Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi,

When I add a new activity, duration is not 5 but 4.4days.
This issue is obviously coming from the calendar because it has been modify to 8h/day instead of 7h.

This is not a global but a project Calendar.
I checked my Project settings calendar for new activities by default and it is the one needed : 8h/day.

I checked the calendar parameters and it is correctly filled with 8hours in the workweek or in the timeperiods tables.

I don't know what I am doing wrong and where is the solution.
If anybody had the solution, I would be very gratefull to you.

For information, we are working on P6V19.

check the detail of the calendar for each work day. It appears that one of the days is set to work less than 8 hours per day. Fix the calendar then group and sort by duration. make sure that auto reorganize is off then where the durations are less then a whole day fix the first one on that group and then do a fill down in the duration column within that grouping.

When you create an activity in P6, by default P6 calculates all duration in hours. This is where the settings in the calendars for work hours/time period are important. If your calednars was originally set such that 1day = 7hrs, then create a task as 5days, P6 will convert this to being a 35hr task.

This duration is then stored and any changes to the calendar do not automatically re-calculate existing durations.

When you change the calendars work hours/time period, P6 remembers that the task is 35hrs long, and now on a 8hrs/day calendar, this works out to be 35/8 = 4.375days.

The easiest way to resolve this is to run a Global Change to modify the durations of all tasks using that calendar (by setting up a condition in the Global change where Calendar = {name}). Then calculate that remaining duration = remaining duration * 1.14 - that is 8/7. However this may cause problems on activities that were created/modified AFTER the calendars work hours/time were changed.

HI,

All settings of my project calendar are good.
My only issue is regarding the admin preference available under P6 WEB, which is 7h/d.

If I modified it to 8h/d, all projects under my database will be affected and this is clearly not possible.

If there is no other solution, I will continue to modify manually the calendar.

Frederic,

You need to checked the time period settings on the project calendar that you used as default assignment for your new activities. It should match the calendar settings. If you default project calendar is 8h/day then the time period should be 8h/d. Once it is matched then checked the default duration from admin preference under general tab. It should also say 5 and not 4.4. The default duration also sometime change if the time duration under admin preference are change to different setting and must always check and make sure the Used assignned calendar to specify the number of work hours for its time period is tick.
