Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hello

What would the best way to import status in P6 be. Almost all activities will be "physical %".

How do I ensure the status gets logeed in accurately. Many a times when I export a spreadsheet out from P6 and import it back with updated status (% complete, RD, Actual Date), I still end up messsing up certain values. So wanted to check if there was a fool proof way of achieving this simple task without manually having to type it all in.

TIA

as I previously stated any column that has an asterick * on it is not importable

as you can see below from the excel file that physical % complete is one of those fields.

(*)Physcial % Complete(%) is one of those fields

Here is the work around Export the field called Activity % Complete (%)

then populate this with the % complete and import this Actviity % Complete back into P6

then go to tools global change and select New

make the parpameters look like this

where Activity % complete is greather than 0%

then physical % complete = activity % complete

then select change

then select Commit Changes (lower right)

then exit the global change

do this AFTER every time that you import a new % complete

I am using Physical % complete column in update % complete but for some reason % complete does not change.

I ahve checked formatting and all which seems to be fine.

1st export the data that is to be updated

1. create a filter where activity status is not equal to compelte

2. create a template for the export include the following

activity id, activity description, original duration remaining duration, physical % complete, actual start, actual finish

when you export this tempate chose the filter that you use created in step 1.

3. export this info to excel and update the remaining duration, physical % complete, actual start, actual finish fields

make sure to also incluse the start and finish TIMES. The actual start time should be i.e. 8:00 am or the earlies start time in all of the calendars being used and the actual finish time should be lates time of all your calendars being used i.e. 5:00 PM

4. save the file and import the data

5. Change the data date the TIME for the data date should be i.e. 8:00 am or the earlies start time in all of the calendars being used.

6. Analyze the results.
