Hi Guys,

I have seriously started to think that the job posting advertisements published in these website are absolutely fake and useless. For the last 5 years or so, I have changed job atleast 5 times, but was never benefitted from the job postings in this website.
Has anybody got a different experience?

Thanks.

Andrew,

I know what you mean about differences in rates for the same job. One stroke that an employer tried to pull went like this. After being interviewed for a job at a very attractive rate, I was told that I didn’t really have the experience for the post, but they’d take me on in a more junior role at a considerably lower rate of pay. I didn’t take it, and I don’t think anyone else did either as about six weeks later the post was advertised again, but by then I already had a job and wasn’t interested.

It’s just a variation on advertising the post and seeing who bites.

Chris,

I agree, the other thing I have noticed is the salaries offered -

recent job on here was offering £100 (or £120k) - £180k, saw the same job, (must have been as there aren’t many jobs in my industry sector paying that money in Manchester), on another site but offering £100 - £120k.

Slight difference in range.

Hi Andrew,

I think that you’re right; definitely as far as being obliged to go out to the market. Of course, as Jenny points out, there are genuine recruitment offers advertised generally, but how do you tell the difference? I must admit I sometimes wonder whether a lot of the real recruitment offers are when a recruiter sends you a private message offering you a job.

But it doesn’t really matter, as Mike said, it gets you CV noticed.

"It often happens that a contractor will test the market and call in interviews before promoting internally.

In some larger companies and local authorities they have to do this anyway"

eh, i thought this practice is used only here in my country, ’happy’ to see we are not alone on this,
what deceive me on pp job posts, there are always ’very high end’ offers, just wondering the market don’t need junior planners ?

friendly yours

Andrew,

I find it most unlikely that a business would put an ad on to "test the market" as anybody with more than five minutes experience knows that construction planners with a stable work history, ie not freelance/contract, and UK experience are like gold dust. If you ever come across an ad posted by me you can rest assured it’s a real postion and the salary levels are accurate.

I am actually GENUINELY looking for an experienced Senior Planner for an International Project Management Company. The position is permanent and will be based in Edinburgh. My current Senior Planner has unfortunately relocated to London and leaves in the next two weeks - anyone interested and want further information or can point me in the right direction?.....

Please message me if so...

Contractors, Employers, Consultants all do it - you hit the nail on the head, it’s because they are obliged to advertise jobs and "go out to the market" even when they want to promote internally. Local authorities are one of the worst offenders but thankfully thay don’t employ many planners.

Not saying that all the jobs on this site are fake ,far from it, but some are no doubt put out there to see what the response is and see who bites.

Anyone with more than 5 mins experience has seen it happen for themselves, I have.

Ok, time to stick my neck on the line and try to get a response out of the site organisers:

Most people believe that this site is run by recruitment agencies, for recruitment agencies and I believe that some of the jobs advertised, especially at the higher salaries, are advertised to purley test the market.

I often look to see what’s on offer out of curiousity but to date I’ve never have had to think about agency work to keep me going - not knocking it, thankfully just been able to keep my head above water without using agencies. Maybe the day will come.

Over to you Gold Group and Anderson Young and Project Resource!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are we guessing the predictable answers?

I think this has something to do with location.

Canada is nearer to US of A compared to UK where most of the job posting come from.

But Mike is correct. It is for individual advantage to have his/her cv’s circulated around the world.

The job I’m presently working was made possible by some agent circulating my resume to a lot of company. I was able to make a choice.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the response. Except for two cases I was always on Staff position. I generally prefer that. The point I need to prove is that even for competent people these adds are of no use. I had got much better responses when I had put my CV on primavera.com or AACEI websites.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Sobhan

You don’t mention if you are contract or permanent - 5 jobs in 5 years indicates either short term contract or grasshopper employment.

I don’t think the ads are fake - maybe over-optimistic.

It often happens that a contractor will test the market and call in interviews before promoting internally.

In some larger companies and local authorities they have to do this anyway.

At the very least it is a good way of getting your CV spread around.

Best regards

Mike T.
